Street party action: deadline looming!

This evening Kate and Ellie have posted an update through peoples doors. This is what it said:

Following our previous leaflet, we held a meeting on the 30th January for all the residents of Station Road and Barkers Court concerning the Street Party on the 29th April 2011. It was a very positive and enthusiastic meeting with 11 people from Station Road, Barkers Court and Birch Tree Close. We also had a very good response from the previous leaflet. It was therefore agreed that there was enough enthusiasm for the party and that we will go ahead with organising the event. A committee was formed, and there are still places available if you would like to be involved.

It was agreed that the party would start with lunch at 2pm and afternoon tea at 4.30pm. We will try and arrange marquee for if it rains; and we have been promised a loan of games such as Twister, Giant Connect Four and Giant Jenga. There will also be a small exhibition about the history of the streets and those who used to live here.

At the meeting the three road closure options were discussed and, based on the leaflet responses, it was agreed that Option B was the most suitable location.

As there are quite a few private driveways in this area we will make sure that the residents have vehicle access during the party. However, if you have any objections please contact Kate (34 Station Road) or Ellie (7 Barkers Court) before the application is submitted on the 3rd February. If we don’t hear from you we will assume that you are in favour!

In order to close the road, we need to submit an application to the council 12 weeks before the party. For this application we need to obtain £5 million public liability insurance and provide a fee to the Council.

The issue of funding was discussed at the meeting and it was agreed that an initial contribution from each household would be the fairest way to cover these fees. Each house represented at the meeting has paid £10 and we would be very grateful, if you are planning to attend the party, if you could make a contribution. The application will be submitted on the 3rd February so any donations by this date would be appreciated. If you would like to see the insurance quote or the documentation from the Council please feel free to speak to Kate at 34 Station Road.

We would like to hold another meeting, following the response from the council, to discuss the party logistics in more detail. This will be held at the junction of Station Road and Barkers Court at 4pm on Sunday 6th March 2011.
